How to personalize your tree message (and why it matters)

Adding a message, image, or hashtag to your tree makes your planting more meaningful—and more visible in the Tree Feed.

When you plant a tree with Tree-Nation, you're not just helping the planet — you're telling a story. Personalizing your tree with a message, image, or hashtag adds meaning to your action and helps connect with your community.

Here’s why it matters:

Let others know why you’re planting — whether it’s to celebrate a special moment, highlight your CSR or offset strategy, or as part of a campaign.

🌍 Inspire others
Your message might encourage someone else to start their own planting journey — or even replant your tree(s).

Personalized plantings are more likely to appear higher in the Tree Feed, especially when they include:

• A custom message

• A relevant image or video

• Popular or specific hashtags

Over time, your messages and content help shape your public forest profile — your story, your values, your impact.

✏️ How to personalize your tree

When you reach Step: Personalize your tree during the planting process:

1. Toggle the personalization switch to ON

You’ll see options to add a message, image/video, and hashtags.

2. Add a picture or video

Click on the image box to upload a visual or select from available options (e.g., birthday, event, team, thank you, etc.).

3. Write your tree message

In the text box, explain what inspired your planting. This is your chance to express:

• A dedication or tribute

• Your hopes for the future

• A meaningful story or personal reason

• Your company’s CSR or offset strategy

📝 Example: “Planting this tree to honor my grandfather, who taught me to love the forest.” Or “Our company plants for every employee's work anniversary.”

4. Add hashtags

Use the # field to include relevant hashtags. This helps your message appear in trending topics and be discovered more easily.

📣 How your content appears in the Tree Feed

When you plant trees, it becomes visible in the public Tree Feed — a real-time space where the community can see and celebrate each other’s impact.

The visibility of your post depends on several factors:

• ✅ Number of trees planted

• 📝 Personalization (message, image, hashtags)

• 🌱 Inclusion of a Tree Motivation — a short message that explains why you’re planting

💡 What is a “tree motivation”?

Your tree message is also called a Tree Motivation — a brief story that gives purpose to your planting. The stronger and more authentic the motivation, the higher the engagement and visibility in the feed.

How to personalize tree message of an ongoing contribution? 

If you picked one of our automated tree planting services, you will also be able to personalize this tree message. Below, you will see how this can be done per service. 

Net Zero Product 

1. Go to the offset product page.
2. Select your active integration by clicking on ´View code´. 
3. Click, at the top, on ´Customize´ and you will be able to personalize your tree. 
   Note: We recommend keeping the #NetZeroProduct, which is the default one and has high visibility. 
4. Click on the ´Save changes´ button at the end of the page. 

Climate subscription

1. Click on the top menu bar on the ´Upgrade´ button, or go directly to this page.
2. Click, at the top, on ´Personalize´ and you will be able to personalize your tree.
   Note: We recommend keeping the #Pledge, which is the default one and has high visibility. 
3. Click on the ´Save changes´ button at the end of the page. 

Integrations (API, Zapier, etc.) 

With other integrations such as API, Zapier or monday.com, the personalization has been given while requesting the API Token. If you want to change the personalization of this contribution, please reach out to support@tree-nation.com including the tree message, image and the hashtag.
