On-site visits: our verification protocol
Our verification process combines yearly remote monitoring with in-person visits every 2–5 years where applicable.
At Tree-Nation, our verification process combines advanced remote monitoring with periodic on-site visits. This hybrid approach ensures robust due diligence, aligns with certification requirements, and supports high standards of transparency and governance.
🛰️ Remote verification: our primary method
We monitor all active projects annually using:
Method | Description | Frequency |
---|---|---|
Remote sensing (EVI) | Satellite imagery to assess vegetation health and forest evolution | Every year |
Geolocated photos | Submitted by project holders to document site progress | Every year |
VQS reports | Verified Quality Submissions including planting and maintenance data | Every year |
🧭 On-site visits
Tree-Nation complements remote monitoring with physical visits to eligible planting sites. These visits allow us to assess forest growth, maintenance, and impact on the ground.
We schedule on-site visits for qualifying sites:
-
At least once every 5 years
-
In practice, our average visit frequency is once every 2.1 years
Each visit typically includes 5–10 planting sites, with 1–2 sampling zones assessed per site.

🚫 Visit exclusions
Certain planting sites are not subject to physical visits, due to technical or contextual constraints. These include:
-
Closed projects
-
Non-exclusive planting sites (co-financed or co-managed)
-
Micro-projects with fewer than 20,000 trees
-
Sites in regions where safety cannot be guaranteed
All of these remain covered by our annual remote verification process.
