Our master plan: how we aim to plant 1 trillion trees

A fusion of cutting-edge software, global resources, and assertive planning will propel us towards accomplishing our objective

Our master plan how we aim to plant one trillion trees 1

We are Tree-Nation: a business with over 18 years of experience tailoring a solution to reforest the planet as part of the fight against climate change. In 2006, when our company was established, our founder was greeted with a public largely uninterested in climate services, so he had time to iterate (...and iterate) on our product to arrive at our current platform. Today, we are proud to have assembled an all-star, multicultural team of people just as passionate about the environment as you are. This is a team that transcends frontiers because of a very ambitious shared mission: to plant 1 trillion trees by 2050

We came to our chosen approach after careful consideration. Thirty years ago, it was hypothesized that reducing greenhouse gas emissions would be sufficient to halt the deterioration of our environmental systems. However, slow worldwide emission reduction efforts coupled with population growth have resulted in the increase of such emissions. The solutions that we deploy today must then be fast, and should be carried out in parallel with the transition to reduced emissions. While this work is in its early stages, natural disasters are taking place the world over, making time our biggest contender.

The Tree-Nation solution is effective because it joins the forces of individuals, companies, and project owners to stop climate change. Though these entities may not significantly impact the environment on their own, the strength of our platform lies in the amassed resources that it represents. We have partnerships with reforestation projects around the world, a loyal sponsor base funding the planting of those projects, and a team of experts overseeing and improving platform operations in six different languages, day-to-day. As inhabitants of this planet, we recognize that it is our duty to preserve it, and we are committed to uniting forces to achieve this goal.

Through the Internet of Trees, Tree-Nation’s proprietary network, we aim to link any action (from saying happy birthday to celebrating pride month) to the planting of a tree. Our digital tree and forest profile tools have been created to represent your very own forest, one that you may use to express your interests or interact with clients. Individuals will perceive the experience as a social network, while companies will be able to seamlessly integrate our software-as-a-service within their existing systems. For example, our One Product-One Tree commitment option will automatically trigger the planting of a tree upon purchase of a product, thereby increasing customer loyalty while incentivizing sales. The gamification strategy inherent in all of our offerings encourages users to actively engage with the Tree-Nation network while they enjoy the different perks of our platform, prompting them to share their experience with friends, family, and clients.

An outlandish goal requires extraordinary growth. We have a roadmap for aggressive growth in order to reach 1 trillion planted trees by 2050. It may seem like this lies in the far off future, but as we have already learned, fighting emissions is a gradual process that requires great momentum and persistent efforts. We have begun to experience that spark of momentum, yet continue to work with urgency to meet our reforestation goals. In the meantime, we have clear objectives set, such as reaching 1 million users serviced and at least 50 million trees planted by the end of 2025.

To fulfill our mission, our platform is guided by certain principles which allow for rapid scaling:

  • To provide standardized services

  • To establish fixed prices across all users

  • To offer a self-service operational model

  • To layer automation at every step of the experience

Though we may launch customized campaigns on an ad-hoc basis, the bulk of our planting volume is managed automatically, ensuring that our team’s talents are devoted to sponsor origination, project management, service improvement, and company growth efforts. Employing this model ensures that our services undergo extensive user testing, enabling us to incorporate valuable feedback into ongoing innovation efforts. The result? Constant development of increasingly streamlined products especially tailored to our sponsors’ needs.

If there is a testament to the success of our work, that is the price of our trees. When Tree-Nation started, the price of a single tree was around €50. Now, the average cost per tree is €1. We anticipate reaping further savings from our economy of scale, passing those along to users who will be able to plant more trees with their funds. While our commitment to the planet remains steadfast, witnessing the expansion of our service fills us with gratitude for those who support our mission. We are both hopeful and optimistic about the rising popularity of climate consciousness, a movement which is stronger now than ever before.
