Species replacement settings in automations
To ensure a smooth planting experience, Tree-Nation offers a stock replacement system that keeps your automation running even when specific tree species go out of stock or change in price.
This article explains how the species replacement system works, your available settings, and how to stay in control.
How species availability works
Many of Tree-Nation’s planting tools let you automate your tree planting — for example, planting five trees every month for your aunt Rosie. When setting up an automation, you can choose both the project and the species you wish to plant.
While we do provide this granularity for transparency reasons, species availability evolves constantly. We manage over a thousand species across seasonal planting programs, and stock levels may vary based on the time of year, planting conditions, or the addition of new planting sites within ongoing reforestation projects.
To ensure your automation continues planting uninterrupted, we’ve developed a Stock Replacement Module.
💡Note: Most advanced automations use multi-species lists by default and are not affected. But if your automation uses only one species or a custom list, replacements may occur.
What happens if a species runs out of stock?
If a selected species becomes unavailable, the Stock Replacement Module automatically finds a replacement that matches your original as closely as possible, always at the same price.
The replacement logic follows this order:
-
If no match is found, it expands to other projects, again selecting a species with the same or higher CO₂ absorption.
Once the tree is planted:
-
The tree detail view will clearly display which species was planted.
Staying in control
The stock replacement system ensures that your tree planting continues smoothly, even when species availability changes.
