Species replacement settings in automations

To ensure a smooth planting experience, Tree-Nation offers a stock replacement system that keeps your automation running even when specific tree species go out of stock or change in price.

This article explains how the species replacement system works, your available settings, and how to stay in control.

How species availability works

At Tree-Nation, we give you the ability to select not only the project but also the species for your automated planting actions. We do this for transparency, so you always know exactly where and what is being planted on your behalf.

However, tree availability is dynamic. Tree-Nation manages over a thousand species across seasonal planting programs. Stock levels can change based on:

  • Time of year and planting conditions

  • Seasonal variations in reforestation projects

  • New planting sites are being added

Because of this, the species you selected may occasionally run out of stock or its price may increase over time.

To make sure your automated planting continues without interruptions and at the same price you originally selected, we’ve implemented a species replacement system.

💡Note: Most advanced automations use multi-species lists by default and are not affected. But if your automation uses only one species or a custom list, replacements may occur.

What happens if a species runs out of stock?

If a species in your automation is no longer available, our Stock Replacement System finds a replacement that matches your original as closely as possible, always at the same price point.

  • The replacement is selected based on project availability, price, and CO₂ absorption.

  • If needed, it expands to other projects to ensure planting continues.

  • In your Tree details, you’ll clearly see which species was planted.

  • Once the original species is back in stock, we stop using the replacement and continue planting your original selection.

What happens when species prices change?

If a species in your automation or recurring planting changes in price, Tree-Nation will not charge you more or less.

Instead, the species is replaced with another one at the same price point and with an equal or higher CO₂ impact, so you can keep planting trees at the price you originally selected.

  • Planting continues automatically at your original price.

  • You’ll receive an email notification whenever a replacement happens.

What this means for you

  • Your planting continues as usual, at the same price, no action required from you.

  • We’ll keep you informed of any replacements that take place by email.

  • You’re in control, so if you’d prefer to:

    • Keep the original species and accept its new higher price, or

    • Choose a different species/project yourself,
