Transparency and accountability principles

Tree-Nation’s system is designed to ensure that every project, activity, and outcome can be traced, understood, and followed over time.

Our approach focuses on clear responsibilities, structured processes, and accessible data, rather than relying on complex external audit layers.

1. Traceable project lifecycle

Each project follows a structured lifecycle:

  • Validation before planting, defining species, location, and project setup

  • Planting and on-site implementation carried out by local partners, funded by sponsors

  • Monitoring and verification through reporting and remote sensing over time

All stages are recorded and linked within our system, ensuring full traceability from project design to long-term development.

2. Transparent crediting approach

Tree-Nation issues carbon credits:

  • At validation (ex-ante) based on methodology-defined calculations

  • Using clearly defined assumptions linked to each project

Credits are tied to project data and monitored development over time, ensuring that all claims remain traceable and linked to real project activity.

3. Clear separation of roles

Tree-Nation maintains clear responsibility across all functions:

  • Internal:

    • methodology development

    • project validation

    • credit issuance and registry

  • External:

    • funding (sponsors)

    • project implementation (local planting partners)

    • monitoring and verification inputs (remote sensing and reporting systems)

This separation ensures both operational clarity and accountability at each stage of the project.

4. Data-driven monitoring and verification

We use a combination of:

  • remote sensing indicators (e.g. EVI) to track vegetation development at scale

  • project reporting from local partners

  • and, where applicable, Aboveground Carbon (AGC) datasets for more precise carbon estimation

This approach allows us to monitor both:

  • ecosystem development and vegetation growth (EVI-based)

  • and carbon performance where Aboveground Carbon methodologies are applied

ensuring a system that is both scalable across all projects and capable of higher accuracy where required.

5. Platform-level transparency

Tree-Nation is designed to make project and certification data accessible directly through the platform.

Our goal is that all key information—from validation parameters to monitoring and verification data (MRV)—can be accessed on demand, allowing users to see how each project is defined, implemented, and tracked over time.

While not all data layers are yet fully exposed, we are continuously working toward making the entire project lifecycle and certification process visible and traceable within the platform.

6. Methodology transparency

Our methodologies are:

  • based on current scientific literature

  • adapted to local project conditions

  • implemented through defined calculation frameworks

This ensures that all project assumptions and calculations are consistent and explainable.

In summary

Tree-Nation ensures transparency and accountability by combining:

  • structured validation before planting

  • clear responsibility across stakeholders

  • continuous monitoring and verification

  • and progressively accessible project data through the platform

Our system is designed so that every project can be followed from design to long-term evolution on the ground.
